Purchase students have been ripped off when it comes to having available healthy and vegetarian food. Yes, there are such options on campus in places like the Hub, the dining hall, and the absent Terra Ve, but the attractions such as the salad bars are less than aesthetically pleasing.

But to make up for such voids that the college’s eateries might be unequipped to provide, there’s Kozy Katzenburg Kafe and Deli of Scarsdale. Located just give minutes off the Hutchinson River Parkway, Katzenburg’s, as residents of Scarsdale call it, feeds people of all ages and tastes.

Katzenburg’s fulfills expectations for all possible desires. From the adorable cafĂ©-style setting to the ingredients that tease all pallets, this small restaurant and catering business thrives. The menu options are endless, whether you’re craving a small salad made with five tasty ingredients of your choice, a tuna melt that will melt your heart, or sweet potato fries that will knock your socks off.

The best part of the sweet and savory place is the decent pricing. Before becoming agitated by their famous and not so small $8.99 salad, visitors must understand that they get to choose from a base of romaine lettuce, field greens, or spinach. These bases are followed by dozens of the freshest vegetables, cold pastas, segmented fruits, grated cheeses, cubed meats and rice noodles called “crunchies.”

Vegetables range anywhere from baby corn to cucumbers that can be partnered with delicious cold ham or grilled chicken. They can also toss in, or put on the side, one of their many delicious dressings such as the Chinese, balsamic, Caesar, bleu cheese, and many more. Aside from the salads, their incredibly filing sandwiches cost from $7.99 for the tuna melt to $8.99 for a turkey Rueben.

As for a salad that balances savory with a slight, salty-sweet taste, start with the basic romaine lettuce and prepare to arouse all of your taste buds. Ask for them to mix in grilled chicken, the colorful cold pasta, corn, peas and chilling cucumbers to be dressed with Chinese dressing.

For dessert, try one of their soothing iced coffees or a soft cookie. Another great aspect of this place when the dining experience is over is the sturdy containers that make it easy to grab and go.

Going to Katzenburg’s is hardly a chore once you embrace the secrets of eating healthy. With friendly service and crispy croutons, Katzenburg’s Kafe and Deli is a win as long as you are willing to make the trip.

The deli can be found online at http://www.katzenbergkafe.com/ and has hours Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
