Tandoori, an Indian restaurant located in Port Chester, provides a traditional taste of India with their vibrant décor and dishes.

Located at 163 N. Main St., Tandoori offers reasonable pricing with their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet from Monday to Saturday for $10.95. When entering the small spice palace, an Indian statue and an anxious-to-please staff greet the hungry customers.

Once seated, patrons can enjoy a traditional low-fat yogurt drink known as a sweet lassi and relax next to a calming waterfall. The comfortable wooden chairs surround tables dressed in bright-yellow and navy-blue cloths with matching napkins.

The buffet is a vast line up of copper and silver canisters that hold sacred Indian recipes. Although Indian cuisine mostly consists of meat-based foods, Tandoori also has many delicious vegetarian options.

Don’t miss out on the spicy, hypnotizing chicken tikka masala. Also, each meal is not complete without a piece of freshly baked naan added to an over-flowing plate.

The speedy waiters are always on hand to clear dishes and refill glasses with cold water. After digesting for a moment, don’t forget to try the dessert that is included with the buffet, and usually some form of rice pudding. Or perhaps spend a little more and order one of their other desserts.

The aromatic gulab jamun consists of lightly fried dough milk balls in rose water and honey syrup and costs $4.95. There is also ras malai, which are flat, round cakes of cottage cheese steamed and soaked in sweet reduced milk with pistachio, also for $4.95.

Not only is Tandoori tasty, it is also affordable to the average Purchase student and a good suggestion for a lunch destination.
