The Iron Chef Morimoto provides his customers with a unique dining experience that is both tranquil and delicious at his New York City restaurant, Morimoto.

Located at 88 10th Ave. and within walking distance of the famous Chelsea Market, this restaurant uses only the freshest ingredients. My server mentioned that Morimoto is very serious about his meat and fish. Even though serious ingredients mean serious cash, Morimoto is certainly worth every bite.

The interior décor of the restaurant consists of warm aquamarine colors. The dimly lit, clamshell colored ceiling contributes to this feel. The two-floored restaurant has a dining room and sushi bar on the main floor, with a spiral staircase leading to the fully stocked blue lit bar and lounge. Even the bathrooms are impressive—the stalls are adorned in colorful leaves floating in a glass wall behind toilet seats that magically open as you enter.

The tables and booths vary in size; all are plain as if to be a blank canvas for the colorful food. The staff is professional and extremely knowledgeable about every dish and ingredient on the menu.

The food is delightful and beautifully presented. Sculptural dishes that are both traditional and modern are served on simple white bowls and plates. Using various color palates, the courses please both the eyes and stomach.

The menu is extensive and everything is carefully picked and designed by Morimoto himself. From the Hydrangea martini containing Grey Goose and lychee, to the tofu ‘hot and cold’ dish that is composed of a soy milk soufflé, tofu cheese cake and maple ice cream, everything is brimming with perfection.

My personal favorite was the Seafood Toban Yaki, which features a half shelled lobster, king crab, mussels, clams and diver scallops soaking in a flavorful red-miso sake-broth.

However, if you are educated in the world of sushi or desire a more adventurous meal, indulge in the $120 Omakase. This dish is the chef’s choice of multiple entrees for customers that want to sample the best of everything that Morimoto has to offer.

Feast upon incredible tuna tartars and sashimi platters that are displayed in ways you have never seen before. Make sure to order a side of their rice, or homemade ginger ale to help you digest and prepare your palate for a sweet ride on the dessert train to heaven.

Morimoto is an exquisite restaurant for people with refined taste. Dress fashionably, bring a well padded wallet and open your taste buds to an array of explosive Japanese flavors. If you are interested in a change of venue, take a road trip to Morimoto in Philadelphia.
